Standing and running rigging all replaced in 2009. The original design of this boat provided a keel step for the mast. At some point a previous owner had this professionally redesigned to allow for the mast to be lowered for bridges then raised again. The mast was cut and hinged at the cabin top using the lower portion as a compression post. It appears as a keel step and for the purpose of support it actually is.
In 2009 when the rigging was made new the assemblies for raising and lowering were obsoleted and a traditional fixed stay system was re-installed.
It has running back stays appropriate for a staysail rig.
Headsail and staysail new in 2009. Mainsail is slightly small for the boat but is in good condition and works well. Harken furler new in 2009. All winches opened, cleaned and lubricated in 2009. Spinnaker is lightly used. Chain plates both sides removed, inspected, larger deck plates welded to better cover deck holes, re-bedded 2016.

This model of Hunter was built from 1978 through 1985. It's cutter-rigged and carries a fairly large sail area. These boats are scattered all over the world and were sailed to those destinations. While not immediately considered an offshore style vessel it is capable of ocean crossings. Of note - especially compared to other Hunters - is the inward-turning hull-deck flange and reasonably close spacing of bolts holding them together. This is a much preferred construction feature that costs more to do than out-turning flanges. This vessel's fuel tank was cleaned in 2009 by installing 3 Seabuilt brand clean out Inspection ports for Diesel Fuel Tanks. Entire fuel delivery system including hoses and filter were replaced at that time including float gauge. All through hulls and associated hoses were replaced at that time as well.

The specifications on these boats isn't always accurate. They say the fuel capacity is 44 gallons yet the seller reports never being able to put more than 39 gallon in even after cleaning the tank. Displacement shows under 18,000 LBS but boat weighs over 20,000 fully loaded for cruising in a sling during haul out.

Broker's Comments

This boat was purchased by her current owner in 2009 with the original intent of taking it to Mexico. This model of Hunter is well suited to big water sailing. The seller reports the boat is very comfortable to be aboard in rough water conditions including a trip from Seattle to Tacoma in 46 knot winds a few years ago.

Since 2009 over $50,000 has been invested in the boat upgrading much of the equipment. The engine is professionally maintained with the injector system recently rebuilt. She has made month-long trips to Desolation Sound, Princess Louisa Inlet and many wonderful trips to Northern locations. There are low hours on the engine and most everything works like it's supposed to. It's been used as a Live-a-board for the past 5 years.
