Barcelona Boat Show confirms adjustments for America’s Cup edition
The Barcelona Boat Show has revealed details of a specially adapted 2024 edition, which will occur during the America’s Cup in Barcelona.
Event organisers Fira de Barcelona say they wish to take advantage of the famed regatta’s setting to showcase the sector’s advances in key fields such as sustainability and technology, as well as to generate promotional and networking opportunities.
The America’s Cup, which will occupy the entire Port Vell between 22 August and 20 October 2024, limits the organisation of the Barcelona show in its traditional format this year, both for logistical and scheduling reasons.
For this reason, the Barcelona Boat Show will move away from its usual commercial format to present a special edition this year, where companies in the sector will present their latest innovations, which anticipate the trends in sailing, as well as a sample of the progress of the strategic sectors that will mark the future of the industry.
Organisers say the show will bring together a range of brands and industry leaders, who will showcase the latest advances in innovative technologies such as clean propulsion systems, sustainable boats and foils.
The show’s design and location within the framework of the America’s Cup are still being finalised. Organisers say they will use this year’s event to present a new strategic plan, which will specify the show’s objectives and a new organisational model for the event for the period 2025-2027.
The official opening ceremony of the 37th America’s Cup will be held in Barcelona on 22 August 2024. Racing in the America’s Cup Match itself, which will be a best-of-13 (first to seven) format, will commence on Saturday 12 October, with two races scheduled, followed by a further two races on Sunday 13 October 2024.
The Women’s America’s Cup Regatta Final takes place straight after Race 5 on Wednesday 16 October 2024.
