Last week Steve from Boatshed Falmouth called in on the inaugural Emirates Boatshow in Abu Dhabi.

Pleasure boating is relatively new in the Emirates and the marketing messages were somewhat mixed, leaving buyers asking; "Should I start with a small 40 footer or go straight for a more roomy 70 footer?"

Helicopters and super cars were for sale as optional extras. It was nice to see Sunseeker waving the flag.

Boating in the Emirates is growing and is following the immense development of the region. The marinas are on their way and will prove to be lavish.

For buyers that are not quite ready to sign a big cheque for a new boat, the options are less. Quality, second hand boats are thin on the ground and attract high prices. Most opt for private imports and the obvious place to start is the USA with their massive stock of used boats at keen prices.
