Broker's Comments
It is said that the Twister 28 is so called because the designer Kim Holman's brief was to 'twist' the rules for racing yacht measurement! He achieved a lot more than that with the Twister, they are hugely popular and unconditionally loved by their owners and grace start lines of both classic and handicap fleets as well as extensively cruise coastal waters and happily cross oceans.
This particular example is all wood, surprising considering her age. The owner spent 20 years constructing her using the finest timber available and eventually launched her in 1983. Twenty five years later she was lucky enough to be bought by the current owner who (as a shipwright) gave her a full refit ready to sail, sometimes singlehanded around the UK. She was stripped, re-rigged, re-engined, re-wired and much more besides. Below is the owners summary of works (which is still not exhaustive!).
REFIT
The refit took over a year to complete with most of her equipment replaced. The paint was stripped and recoated with single pack marine coatings. The decks were sanded and recalked.
Much of the internal joinery was removed and new lockers, table, chart table and galley made from sapele timber. All electrical wiring and fittings were replaced together with a new freshwater system. The mast was stripped, wrapped, rewired and dressed with new standing rigging.
Machinery - Fuel tank removed, cleaned and refitted (90 litres)
New 20hp Beta 2020 fitted 2022 with sigma drive thrust bearing, new stern gland seal (water cooled)
New Darglow Featherstream propeller and rope cutter.
Electrics - Completely rewired with marine tinned cable
144 watts solar panel giving the boat off grid capabilities
240v shore power and Victron charger, galvanic isolator, 75amp alternator charging both battery banks.
New nav/deck lights, interior lights soft white and red. 12 USB sockets. Bilge blower, engine bay light, cockpit locker lights. Auto bilge pump
Internal - pressurised hot and cold water, deep sink in galley and shower in cockpit. Water tank approx. 50lts
New galley, chart table, dining table and saloon lockers furniture in Sapele. New window glass and polished stainless-steel surrounds.
